What should I have ready for an Ontario auto quote?
Have the vehicle ownership, driver information, current policy and an estimate of how much you drive ready. Include everyone who regularly drives the vehicle.
Start with each driver’s experience
For each regular driver, including you, I’ll ask about these dates.
- When did you get your G1, G2 and full G licence? Include the date for each stage you’ve reached.
- Have you recently completed a driver training course? If so, when did you finish it?
- When were you first listed on an auto policy? That includes time as an occasional driver on someone else’s car.
- When did you first insure a vehicle as its owner? When were you first listed as a principal driver (the person who drives the vehicle most often)? Those dates can be different.
If you’re unsure of a date, give me your best estimate and let me know it’s approximate. I can use it for a preliminary quote. We’ll confirm the details before putting coverage in place.
Tickets, suspensions and claims
For each driver, let me know about any of the following. Include the date and a brief description of what happened.
- Traffic tickets or licence suspensions in the past three years.
- Auto insurance claims in the past six years.
Gather the details for each vehicle
Have the vehicle identification number (VIN) handy. If you don’t have it yet, start with the year, make and model. When did you buy the vehicle, and was it new or used when you bought it?
Tell me where you usually park it overnight and roughly how many kilometres you drive each year. If you commute, include the one-way distance and how many days a week you make the trip. Mention deliveries or other work use separately.
Check for discounts
Do you install winter tires on all four wheels? Tell me which vehicles have them so I can check whether they qualify for the insurer’s winter tire discount.
If your household has more than one vehicle, ask me to quote them together. You may qualify for a multi-vehicle discount on one policy. We can compare that total with what you’d pay on separate policies.
Share your current policy
If you already have auto insurance, you can share your current policy PDF with me. I’ll use it to compare your coverage limits and deductibles with the quote.
If it’s easier to send the details yourself, include your insurer’s name, renewal date, premium, coverage limits and deductibles. Let me know whether the premium is monthly or annual so we can compare the cost over the same period.
Send your details for an auto quote.
